Doja Cat has publicly defended Chappell Roan following criticism over the pop singer’s confrontations with paparazzi during Paris Fashion Week. In a six-minute video posted to TikTok, the rapper praised Roan’s willingness to set boundaries while also revealing she has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.
The video arrives days after Roan was filmed confronting photographers outside the Alexander McQueen show in Paris on March 9. Footage circulating online shows the singer documenting the moment herself as roughly a dozen photographers crowded around her vehicle while she attempted to leave for dinner.
Doja Cat framed Roan’s reaction as self-protection rather than arrogance. “I f**king love that she does it,” the Grammy-winning rapper said in the clip. “I love that she can be uncomfortable, comfortably, in front of people and protect herself and be honest.”
The conversation quickly turned personal. Doja revealed she spent years struggling with honesty toward herself, explaining how watching Roan speak up resonated with her own experiences navigating fame and mental health. “I had to learn how to be honest,” she said. “I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life.”
Admiration continued throughout the video. According to Doja, Roan’s approach shows artists can defend their boundaries without attacking others or escalating situations unnecessarily. “She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself,” Doja added. “These artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves, and Chappell Roan is not hurting anybody.”
The rapper also pushed back against online criticism framing Roan’s reactions as rude. “Let her have an attitude,” she said. “I would love to have one as well, and I f**king will, hopefully, in the future.”
Roan’s confrontation in Paris represents the latest moment in a broader conversation she has been having since her breakout in 2024. The singer has repeatedly addressed issues surrounding fan behavior, unwanted touching and aggressive paparazzi encounters at major industry events.
