Dua Lipa is giving fans a clearer idea of what to expect from her fourth studio album. In a new interview with Italian Vogue, the pop star revealed that DL4 will move beyond the heartbreak and longing that have often fueled love songs, instead exploring the quieter and more complicated realities of being in a relationship.
“Talking about having a broken heart is very common. When I was younger, I found much more inspiration in the search for and the longing for [true love],” Dua Lipa told the magazine. “Because heartbreak is such a loud emotion. But now I want to discover what happens after you find love.”
Her new perspective appears to be shaping the creative direction of the new album, which has been in development since studio sessions began in summer 2025. Dua Lipa continued, “I’m interested in the everyday complexities of a relationship, in its quieter moments, in the small things.”
The comments offer one of the most revealing glimpses yet into the themes behind DL4. Rather than centering the dramatic highs and lows that typically define pop’s biggest relationship songs, Lipa appears interested in the details that emerge once the excitement of finding love settles into everyday life.
That shift also lines up with the singer’s previous comments about the writing process. Earlier this year, she told Access Hollywood that she was still writing and figuring out the record, adding, “It will be revealed.” Her studio updates over the past several months have similarly shown that the project remains actively in progress.
Dua Lipa first confirmed that work on her fourth album had begun in June 2025, when British Vogue reported that she was “planting the first seeds” for the follow-up to Radical Optimism. By August, she acknowledged that the sound was still changing from session to session.
“Every day I’m making something that sounds completely different from yesterday,” Lipa told Harper’s BAZAAR at the time. “Trying to figure out the new direction is probably the most fun part, but it’s also the hardest.”
Mark Ronson is among the confirmed collaborators involved in the process. The producer previously worked with Lipa on “Electricity” through Silk City and “Dance The Night” from the Barbie soundtrack, and said in September 2025 that the new record was “constantly changing.” He also praised how Lipa’s relationship and personal evolution were influencing her songwriting.
For now, Dua Lipa has not announced a title, release date or tracklist for DL4. Her most recent album, Radical Optimism, arrived in May 2024 and debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 2 on the Billboard 200, giving her the highest U.S. chart position of her career.
