Ed Sheeran brought a very special guest to the stage at MetLife Stadium on Friday night (September 4), turning the first of his two LOOP Tour shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey, into an unexpected reunion with Camila Cabello. The pair performed their 2022 collaboration “Bam Bam” together for the first time in more than four years.
Introducing Cabello to the crowd, Sheeran described their relationship as a rare friendship that has lasted for more than a decade. “You’re musicians and you want to make friends, but very rarely do you form like real, real strong friendships,” he told the audience. “And I’ve had a friendship with this person for well over a decade.”
Ed Sheeran revealed that the reunion came together almost spontaneously. The two had met up earlier that day in New York, and he suggested they perform the song during his MetLife Stadium show.
“Yeah, they were in New York, and we hung out earlier today, and I was like: ‘We should sing the song. We should sing this song!’” he continued. “One of my favorite songs that I’ve done. I can’t wait to play it. Can you make some noise for Camila Cabello?”
Camila Cabello then walked onto the circular in-the-round stage. Together, the two delivered “Bam Bam,” their salsa- and cumbia-tinged breakup anthem that appeared on Cabello’s third studio album, Familia.
Released on March 4, 2022, “Bam Bam” became one of Cabello and Sheeran’s biggest collaborations. The song reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the Billboard Global 200, while entering the Top 10 in more than 15 countries. The song also earned the pair a 2023 Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Their MetLife performance marked the first time Sheeran and Cabello had performed “Bam Bam” together live since the 2022 Concert for Ukraine benefit. Cabello closed the surprise appearance by telling Sheeran, “I love you,” before leaving the stage.
