Ed Sheeran has officially released his long-awaited new album Play, available now via Gingerbread Man Records and Atlantic Records. Out today, September 12, the project marks the superstar’s eighth studio album and the beginning of his ambitious five-part “symbol series,” which will also include Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Stop.
Play signals Sheeran’s return to full-scale pop after his stripped-back acoustic records – (Subtract) and Autumn Variations in 2023. The 13-track collection blends Sheeran’s signature songwriting with expansive production, balancing intimate lyricism with radio-ready hooks.

The rollout has already delivered multiple hits. Lead single “Azizam” introduced global textures in April, followed by the reflective “Old Phone” in May. Summer anthem “Sapphire” dropped in June, while August’s “A Little More” channeled the warmth of Sheeran’s early classics. Today, the release is joined by the fifth single “Camera.”
Sheeran has described Play as his “big pop” comeback, designed to reconnect with the energy of the albums that made him one of the best-selling artists in the world. At the same time, he is already looking ahead. In recent interviews, he confirmed that Rewind, the next installment in the symbol series, was developed alongside Play and could arrive within the next 18 months.
