Ed Sheeran has added another historic achievement to his streaming résumé. His 2017 smash hit “Perfect” has officially surpassed 4 billion streams on Spotify, becoming just the ninth song in the platform’s history to reach the milestone.
The achievement places Sheeran in exceptionally rare company. With both “Perfect” and “Shape of You” now above the 4 billion mark, he becomes only the second artist ever to have multiple songs cross that threshold, matching a record previously held solely by The Weeknd.
The Canadian superstar became the first artist to accomplish the feat in summer 2025 when “Starboy” joined “Blinding Lights” above 4 billion streams. Nearly one year later, Sheeran has caught up thanks to the enduring popularity of “Perfect,” one of the defining love songs of the 2010s.
Released as part of Sheeran’s blockbuster album ÷ (Divide) in 2017, “Perfect” steadily evolved from an album favorite into a global phenomenon. The song initially peaked at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart before receiving a major boost later that year through the release of “Perfect Duet” featuring Beyoncé. That version helped propel the song to No. 1 in both the United Kingdom and the United States, giving Sheeran his second Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.
Commercially, the track became one of the decade’s biggest crossover successes. Beyond topping charts in more than 25 countries, “Perfect” established itself as a wedding staple and streaming giant, maintaining remarkable longevity nearly a decade after its release.
The new milestone also strengthens Sheeran’s standing among Spotify’s all-time streaming leaders. While “Perfect” has now entered the 4 billion club, “Shape of You” remains one of the platform’s biggest songs ever. The global hit currently sits at 4.967 billion streams, putting it within striking distance of another unprecedented benchmark.
At the moment, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” remains Spotify’s only song to surpass 5 billion streams. Should “Shape of You” continue its current pace, Sheeran could soon become the second artist to own a song above that mark, setting up another direct tie between two of streaming’s most dominant hitmakers.
