Kacey Musgraves officially launched her Middle of Nowhere Tour on Friday (Aug. 21), opening the 36-date trek at Chicago’s United Center. The opening-night setlist leaned heavily on her new album while revisiting fan favorites from Golden Hour, Same Trailer Different Park and star-crossed.
The tour arrives three months after Musgraves released Middle of Nowhere on May 1 through Lost Highway Records. The album marked her return to the relaunched label and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 100,000 equivalent album units, giving Kacey Musgraves the biggest first-week sales performance of her career and extending her streak of consecutive Top 10 debuts to six.
For the Chicago opener, Musgraves placed the new album at the center of the show. “Everybody Wants To Be A Cowboy” and “Dry Spell” opened the set before she moved into “justified,” “High Horse” and “Merry Go Round,” creating an early run that connected her latest material with some of her most recognizable songs.
The setlist also included “Butterflies,” “Abilene,” “Back on the Wagon,” “I Believe in Ghosts,” “Uncertain, TX,” “Loneliest Girl,” “Rhinestoned,” “Mexico Honey” and “Middle of Nowhere.” “Golden Hour,” “Slow Burn” and “Space Cowboy” brought several of the defining songs from her Grammy-winning 2018 album into the show, while “Follow Your Arrow” revisited her 2013 debut Same Trailer Different Park.
Musgraves also made room for two covers during the opening night. She performed “Hey Baby Que Pasó,” originally recorded by Sir Douglas Quintet and later popularized by the Texas Tornados, before returning to the country canon with George Strait’s “All My Ex’s Live in Texas.”
The tour will continue across North America before moving to Australia and the United Kingdom. Midland, Flatland Cavalry, Carter Faith, Charles Wesley Godwin, Estevie, William Beckmann, Gabriella Rose and The Brudi Brothers are among the artists joining various dates, while Musgraves is scheduled to conclude the run on February 26, 2027, at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.
