With influences ranging from punk and hard rock to pop, German rock band Untamed is breaking barriers with their unique blend of sounds. In this exclusive interview, the band discusses their musical influences and the evolution of their unique genre, exploring their creative process and the stories woven into their songs, including their latest release ‘Can You Hear Me.’
What’s your musical genre?
Our genre is basically rock with many different influences. Often, there are punk, hard rock, and pop influences that can be heard in our songs. This is how our UNTAMED sound is created.
How would you define your music?
It’s honest rock music because we write our songs and lyrics the way we like them without thinking too much about it. It’s all about emotions, vibes, and feelings. We also don’t set limits on how our songs can be. If we have a cool idea for a song and each of us likes it, we just go for it, no matter if the idea is heavy or soft from the beginning or even crosses into another genre. So, the most different songs can come out, and that’s what we love so much about our band.
What inspired you to form a band and pursue a career in music together?
Of course, the music itself inspired us. When we met, we all immediately realized that we have something very special together. For us, it is the only career we can imagine in our lives. To inspire people with the music and the live show is something indescribably great that we need in our lives forever.
Why did you choose Untamed as your band name, and what does this name mean to you?
As with our songs, we didn’t think too much about it. It was important that it’s just one word that has a clear meaning and stands for us as individuals, so that we can also identify with it. So, it’s nothing personal, but we love that name.
Can you tell us about your new single ‘Can You Hear Me’?
Yes, it’s our fifth single which reveals the broad spectrum of our songs. The song is extremely emotional and personal and has the piano as the main element. The lyrics describe the loss of a loved one. The song with lyrics was written on the day when Domi Niggl visited his grandpa in the hospital and both knew that he would die. Only at that moment did they both realize that they had spent too little time together in life. This tragic realization triggers an inner turmoil, which this text reflects. However, there is hope for a second chance to meet again in heaven after death. Our high-quality produced music video also guarantees further goosebump moments. Fun Fact: The man in the video is actually Domi Niggl’s father.
What is the meaning behind this song?
Based on this tragic story, the message of this song is: Spend time with your loved ones because time is finite.
What is a message you would like to convey through your music and why?
It’s not just about a specific message; it’s about the song and what it means. Essentially, we want to create songs for different people in various situations. Music that makes people feel the same way we do. We want people to have fun with our music and enjoy themselves. Perhaps even one of our songs will provide solace for people in difficult life situations.
