KATSEYE is heading into the release of WILD with a historic achievement already under its belt. Just hours before the EP arrives on August 14, the girl group has broken Spotify’s record for the most pre-saved project by a girl group.
According to the latest figures, WILD amassed 1.27 million Spotify pre-saves, surpassing the previous record of 1.23 million set by BLACKPINK’s Deadline. The milestone places KATSEYE among the biggest female releases ever during the platform’s pre-release period.
Across all female artists, only three projects have recorded higher Spotify pre-save totals: Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl with 6 million, Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love with 3.8 million, and Ariana Grande’s petal with 3.22 million. The achievement highlights the remarkable anticipation surrounding KATSEYE’s third EP before a single full-day streaming total has even been recorded.
The record arrives as the group continues to promote the EP. On August 12, KATSEYE made its late-night television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae appeared as a quartet while Sophia Laforteza and Manon Bannerman remain on hiatus. During the interview, Lara addressed the temporary lineup and thanked fans for standing behind every member of the group.
The appearance also gave KATSEYE an opportunity to reflect on a breakthrough year that has included an American Music Award win, a Grammy nomination and a performance at Coachella. The members described WILD with words such as “wild,” “maturity” and “growing up,”
Later in the episode, the group performed “Animal” on television for the first time. The Ed Sheeran co-written single, produced by Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin, recently debuted at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving KATSEYE the highest-charting debut of its career.
