Kim Petras has publicly confirmed that she has formally requested to leave Republic Records, citing prolonged delays, creative restrictions, and unresolved payment issues tied to her upcoming album. The German pop artist shared the news directly with fans on X, offering an unfiltered look into the breakdown of her relationship with the label.

According to Petras, her new album, titled DETOUR, has been completed for six months. Despite the project being fully finished, she says Republic Records has yet to approve a release date or compensate collaborators involved in the album’s creation.

She detailed the dispute through a sequence of posts, shared in the following order:

“My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborators for the work they’ve done.”

“Oh ya I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn’t give me a release date for.”

“I’m tired of having no control over my own life or career. I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music. This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by @RepublicRecords.”

“My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys.”

The posts quickly gained traction, sparking renewed conversation around artistic freedom and label control, with #FREEKIMPETRAS trending on X.

The development follows a turbulent album cycle for Petras. Her previous project, Problématique, was originally intended to be her official debut before facing repeated delays and a temporary cancellation. When it finally arrived in September 2023 as a surprise release, the album was praised by fans for its unapologetic, European-leaning pop sound rooted in escapism and club culture.
