Lady Gaga has once again made history. The global superstar leads all nominees at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with an impressive 12 nominations, including Video of the Year for her Bruno Mars collaboration, “Die with a Smile.”

This marks the third time Gaga has topped the VMA nominations list—a milestone no other artist has achieved in the awards’ history. She previously led the nominations list in 2010 (13) and 2020 (10). With this latest showing, she also ties Taylor Swift as the most-nominated artist in a single year during the 2020s.

This achievement comes hot on the heels of the success of Gaga’s recent album, Mayhem. Carried by the hit singles “Abracadabra” and “Disease,” the LP earned widespread praise from critics and fans alike. The album debuted at No. 1 in 23 countries, achieving the largest first-week sales of 2025 for a female album in the U.S.

Mayhem also features the smash hit “Die with a Smile,” a collaboration with Bruno Mars. Bruno himself landed an impressive 11 VMA nominations, including several for “APT.” with ROSÉ.
