Lorde returns with Virgin, her first full-length album since Solar Power (2021), arriving this Friday, June 27, via Universal New Zealand and Republic Records. This long-awaited release follows the surprise single “What Was That,” which debuted at No. 1 on Spotify US—her first chart-topper since “Royals.” As fans eagerly await the album, here’s everything you need to know about Lorde’s comeback.

Background

More than just a title, Virgin represents rebirth and self-discovery. The album cover—an X-ray of a pelvis with a zipper, belt buckle, and visible IUD—signals Lorde’s exploration of femininity, bodily autonomy, and transparency.

Co-produced by Lorde and Jim‑E Stack, the LP is also the result of a collaborative effort with Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Dan Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, and Buddy Ross, with mixing by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst, and mastering by Chris Gehringer.

Marking Lorde’s first full-length project since Solar Power, Virgin builds on the emotional depth of her 2017 effort Melodrama, pushing her into new territory with distorted synths, stadium-ready choruses, and unapologetic lyrics. The album explores themes such as late-20s angst, heartbreak, gender fluidity, and personal autonomy.

The tour begins with the U.S. leg in Austin and includes 45 dates across North America and Europe.
