Olivia Rodrigo turned Spotify’s latest Billions Club Live event into something far more intimate than a streaming milestone celebration. During her May 8 concert in Barcelona, the singer repeatedly embraced fans throughout the show, creating one of the night’s most viral moments as videos quickly spread across X and TikTok.
The emotional interactions unfolded during Rodrigo’s invite-only performance tied to Spotify’s partnership with FC Barcelona ahead of El Clásico. While the night already carried major significance — including the first-ever live performance of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Drop Dead” — fans online focused just as heavily on Rodrigo’s connection with the audience inside the venue. Clips showed her hugging concertgoers between songs, smiling as crowds shouted compliments in both English and Spanish.
One fan summed up the reaction online by writing, “there’s something so grounding about an artist who still hugs fans after hitting billions. the numbers get big but the moments stay small and real.”

The Barcelona performance arrived during one of the biggest weeks of Rodrigo’s career. Just hours before taking the stage, every date on her newly expanded 86-show The Unraveled Tour officially sold out across North America and Europe.
Inside the venue, the atmosphere frequently blurred the line between concert and fan gathering. During one pause between songs, sections of the crowd began chanting “guapa y reina,” Spanish for “beautiful and queen,” prompting Rodrigo to laugh and visibly react from the stage. The audience also participated in the now-famous “bad idea right?” mute challenge, a viral moment carried over from the GUTS Tour where fans collectively fall silent during a key lyric cue before erupting seconds later.
Musically, Rodrigo balanced all three eras of her catalog across the 14-song setlist. She opened with “bad idea right?” before moving through GUTS standouts like “ballad of a homeschooled girl,” “vampire,” and “get him back!” The setlist also included SOUR cuts such as “drivers license,” “traitor,” “favorite crime,” and “happier.
“Drop Dead” ultimately became the centerpiece of the evening. Released less than a month ago, the single debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked Rodrigo as the first artist in history to debut the lead singles from her first three studio albums atop the chart. Performing it live for the first time in Barcelona added another defining moment to an already massive rollout for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, arriving June 12.
The timing also connects directly to Spotify and FC Barcelona’s growing crossover strategy between football and pop culture. On Sunday (May 10), Barcelona’s men’s squad will wear a special edition jersey featuring Rodrigo’s “OR” logo during El Clásico, placing her alongside previous collaborators including Drake, ROSALÍA, Coldplay, KAROL G, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran, and The Rolling Stones.
