Olivia Rodrigo is getting into the holiday spirit with “take me home (4 christmas),” her first original Christmas single, accompanied by a playful music video starring Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live’s Ben Marshall. Released November 6, the festive track puts a distinctly sarcastic spin on holiday romance, trading casual encounters for family introductions and long-term commitment.
Co-written by Olivia Rodrigo alongside longtime collaborators Dan Nigro and Amy Allen, and produced by Nigro, the song combines alternative pop and indie rock with energetic drums, electric guitar riffs and an infectious hook. Its nostalgic holiday atmosphere contrasts with the singer’s conversational delivery, which turns a familiar romantic fantasy into a cheeky demand for something more serious.

“I want you to take me home / And not so we can make out / I want you to take me home / Take me home to your parents’ house,” Rodrigo sings, making her intentions unmistakable.
The accompanying music video brings that storyline to life through two contrasting settings. It opens with Olivia Rodrigo standing in a messy living room after a party, surrounded by discarded balloons and empty bottles, while her love interest, played by Marshall, sleeps on the couch. The morning-after scene quickly gives way to an elaborate Christmas fantasy at a snowy estate, where Nixon appears as the welcoming mother.
From there, Olivia Rodrigo embraces an exaggerated version of domestic holiday bliss. She joins the family for seasonal activities, chops wood, decorates an elaborate gingerbread house and poses in matching festive sweaters. A game of Heads Up, a fireplace and carefully arranged Christmas decorations add to the picture-perfect atmosphere, while the contrast with the chaotic opening gives the visual its comedic edge.
The video’s theatrical holiday sequences underline the song’s central joke: Rodrigo is not interested in keeping things casual anymore. Her character imagines an entire future with her romantic interest, complete with family traditions and the kind of commitment usually associated with classic Christmas movies. The release also arrives with limited physical editions. Olivia Rodrigo has made exclusive 7-inch vinyl and cassette versions available for pre-order through her official website, with the vinyl scheduled to reach stores on November 6. The single follows October’s “expectations” remix featuring Chappell Roan, which became the highest-peaking all-female collaboration on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2026. Meanwhile, Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following the remix’s release.
The album originally debuted atop the chart with 485,000 equivalent album units, marking the biggest solo debut of 2026. Rodrigo is currently supporting the project on her sold-out The Unraveled Tour, which has sold more than one million tickets worldwide.
