Playboi Carti has found himself at the center of new controversy after TMZ reported that the rapper had been charged with misdemeanor assault in Utah following an alleged altercation with a limousine driver earlier this month. However, Carti’s girlfriend, Gio (Giovanna Ramos), has since taken to Instagram to deny the claims, calling the report “fake news.”
According to the original report, the incident allegedly occurred on October 2, when Carti was being driven from the Waldorf Astoria in Park City to rehearsals for his Antagonist 2.0 Tour. The driver, Carl Reynolds, claimed that the rapper became aggressive during an argument with his girlfriend and allegedly struck him after Reynolds attempted to intervene. Reynolds reportedly told police he suffered a bruised jaw and whiplash and stated that he planned to pursue legal action.

However, shortly after the story began circulating, Gio posted an Instagram Story denying the allegations outright. “Fake news,” she wrote, clarifying that no argument or assault took place. Fans quickly began sharing screenshots of her post, demanding that the rumors be corrected and questioning the accuracy of the report.
As of now, local Utah authorities have not publicly confirmed any arrest or official charge related to Carti, and neither Carti nor his representatives have issued an official statement.
The controversy emerged just as Carti was celebrating his return to the stage with the launch of his Antagonist 2.0 Tour in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 3 — his first major headlining tour in years. The tour supports his chart-topping third studio album, Music, which was released on March 14 via AWGE and Interscope Records. The 30-track project features collaborations with The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, and Jhené Aiko, and became Carti’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, moving nearly 300,000 units in its debut week.
For now, the 30-year-old rapper continues his Antagonist 2.0 Tour as scheduled, performing to sold-out arenas across North America.
