Playboi Carti’s long-awaited third studio album, I Am Music, is finally here. The LP was delayed by several hours due to sample clearance issues, leading fans to fear it would be postponed once again. The album features 30 tracks and runs for over 70 minutes. As expected, I Am Music includes contributions from several hip-hop heavyweights. Travis Scott appears on “Crush,” “Philly,” and “Wake Up F1lthy,” while The Weeknd lends his vocals to track eight, “Rather Lie.” Other featured artists include Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Skepta, Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick is officially credited only on “Good Credit,” but his vocals also appear on two additional tracks—“Backdoor” and “Mojojojo.” Notably, “Backdoor” also features R&B star Jhené Aiko.

Overall, fans seem pleased with Carti’s long-awaited comeback, with I Am Music receiving widespread praise on social media. The rapper has spent the last four years working on the project. Following the success of Whole Lotta Red, he began hinting at a follow-up, initially announcing an album titled Narcissist in August 2021. The album was supposed to drop on September 13 of that year, but it never materialized.
Fans received little news until spring 2022, when Carti told XXL that he had changed the album’s title to Music. Over the next two years, he continued experimenting with new sounds and previewing unreleased songs at his concerts. During this time, he also appeared on tracks like Travis Scott’s “Fein” and Future & Metro Boomin’s “Type Shit.”
At the end of 2023, he teased yet another title change—this time to I Am Music—through a cryptic Instagram story. Throughout 2024, he continued hinting at the album’s release, but it never arrived. However, for his 29th birthday, Carti finally broke the silence, dropping “All Red,” his first solo single in four years. Last week, he made it official: I Am Music was complete. Now the album is out—just in time for his highly anticipated set at Rolling Loud this weekend.
