Sabrina Carpenter is closing out 2025 with a heartfelt surprise. On Christmas Eve, the pop star officially released “Such a Funny Way” on all major streaming platforms, gifting fans a song that had previously been reserved for special editions of her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend.
Originally announced on August 8, “Such a Funny Way” debuted as a vinyl-exclusive bonus track tied to one of Man’s Best Friend’s alternate covers. In early September, Carpenter expanded access by offering the song as a limited-time digital download bundled with the album. Until now, however, it had remained absent from streaming services, adding to its reputation as a fan-favorite deep cut.
Alongside the release, Carpenter shared an emotional message reflecting on what she described as a life-changing year. She thanked fans for supporting Man’s Best Friend, wrapping up the Short n’ Sweet Tour, pulling double duty on Saturday Night Live, and celebrating Grammy recognition together. Calling 2025 “such a gift of a year,” Carpenter explained that the song always felt essential to the emotional universe of the album, even if she never envisioned a traditional deluxe edition. Releasing it now, she said, felt like the right way to mark the end of an unforgettable chapter.
Here is the complete message: “Where do i begin! 2025 was such a gift of a year. I can’t even believe how much happened. Getting to release Man’s Best Friend, wrapping up the short n’ sweet tour, SNL double duty, the Grammys!!! so many dream moments that couldn’t have been possible without you. Since the year is coming to a close and i love a good Christmas cry… I wanted to put my song ‘Such a Funny Way’ on streaming as a little thank you gift to the greatest fans a girl could ever ask for. we’ve held hands through so much and i know we always will! I never really felt like this album would have a deluxe version honestly, and this song always felt so important to me in the MBF universe. so if you are enjoying the original, now you can enjoy the bonus track edition! I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and beautiful holiday and i cannot wait for all the incredible moments this new year will bring x I love you i love you i love you!”
The timing underscores the sustained impact of Man’s Best Friend, which arrived on August 29, via Island Records. Produced by Carpenter alongside Jack Antonoff and John Ryan, the album blends polished pop with soft rock influences, building on the sonic foundation of 2024’s Short n’ Sweet. Its lead single, “Manchild,” became a global breakout, reaching No. 1 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Commercially, the album has been one of the defining releases of the year. Man’s Best Friend debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking Carpenter’s second chart-topping album in the U.S. It moved more than 366,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, including 224,000 in pure sales, and set a new benchmark for the most Spotify streams in a single day by a female artist in 2025.
Man’s Best Friend earned six nominations at the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
