The track is part of Sabrina Carpenter’s first holiday EP, “fruitcake,” which premiered on November 17. In an interview with Variety, the 24-year-old singer expressed her long-standing desire to create a holiday project, noting her appreciation for people singing holiday songs.

Sabrina responded to the criticism in an interview with Variety, stating, “We obtained approval in advance, and after all, Jesus was a carpenter.”
