The Path to I Said I Love You First

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco first crossed paths in 2016, when the producer was credited on her hit singles “Kill Em with Kindness” and “Same Old Love.” They later collaborated on the 2019 single “I Can’t Get Enough.” After the release of Revelación, fans anticipated a new full-length project from Selena. In the following years, she dropped the standalone singles “Single Soon” (2023) and “Love On” (2024), but a joint album with Benny wasn’t expected—despite the pair sharing occasional studio photos. In fact, Selena told Variety, “I currently don’t have anything, but I will say music is always going to be a part of me.”

Then, on Valentine’s Day, the couple surprised fans by announcing I Said I Love You First, set for release on March 21. They also debuted the first single, “Scared of Loving You.” Crafted primarily in Benny’s Los Angeles home studio, the album reflects their shared experiences, capturing the essence of their ongoing relationship. A press release describes it as a celebration of their love story, chronicling everything from their lives before meeting to falling in love and envisioning their future together.
