In the early stages of their careers, Taylor and Selena developed a deep friendship that has now lasted more than a decade. In a recent interview with Jake Shane, Gomez recounted the moment with vivid clarity. “It wasn’t released yet. It was in a hotel room,” she said. “I remember it vividly. It was one of those songs I instantly heard and thought, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever.”

Released in September 2008 as the lead single from Swift’s second studio album Fearless, “Love Story” helped launch her into global stardom. Written by Swift and produced with Nathan Chapman, the song reimagined the tale of Romeo and Juliet with a hopeful ending, blending country-pop hooks with fairytale imagery. It went on to reach No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and top charts around the world.
In 2021, Swift re-recorded the track as “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” as part of her effort to regain control of her early catalog. The updated version debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, proving the enduring love fans still have for the track.
