Tate McRae is shutting down the lip-sync rumors in the most direct way possible — by singing live. The Canadian pop star took to TikTok on November 3 to post a clip of herself performing “Purple Lace Bra” live in Austin, following online speculation that she had lip-synced parts of her recent concerts during the Miss Possessive Tour. Captioned with a sarcastic “Cuz apparently I don’t sing in my shows 🙂”, the post quickly gained traction across platforms, earning praise from fans.
The controversy began a day earlier, on November 2, when fan-recorded footage from a tour stop went viral on TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram. The clip appeared to show McRae holding her microphone upside down during a dance-heavy section of “2 Hands,” while her vocals continued through the speakers.

Despite the viral backlash, McRae’s Miss Possessive Tour remains one of her most ambitious and successful projects to date. The arena tour — her fifth overall and first at this scale — supports her third studio album, So Close to What (2025). The tour kicked off in Mexico City on March 18 and has since traveled across multiple continents, with 83 shows scheduled in total. It featured opening acts Benee, Zara Larsson, and Alessi Rose, and included appearances at major festivals such as Lollapalooza and Estéreo Picnic.
As the tour nears its final stretch, McRae has just four shows remaining: two nights in Phoenix, followed by Palm Springs (Nov. 7) and the closing show in Los Angeles (Nov. 8).
