Taylor Swift has reached a rare milestone on Spotify, adding another feat to the long tail of her catalog dominance in the streaming era. On January 24, “Cruel Summer” re-entered Spotify’s Daily Global Chart at No. 183, pulling 1.254 million streams worldwide. With that appearance, the track officially surpassed 1,000 total days on the Global Spotify chart, becoming the first song in Swift’s career to achieve the feat.
The milestone highlights the unusual trajectory of “Cruel Summer,” a song that refused to follow conventional release logic. Originally released in 2019 as part of Swift’s Lover album, the track was never pushed as a single during its initial cycle, despite immediate fan enthusiasm. Over time, it evolved into a cult favorite, reemerging each year as summer approached.
Its official resurgence arrived years later. During the global rollout of The Eras Tour in 2023, “Cruel Summer” became a nightly highlight and quickly went viral across TikTok and other platforms. The renewed attention prompted Republic Records to release the song as an official single in June 2023, nearly four years after its debut.
By the summer of 2024, “Cruel Summer” reached a new commercial peak, climbing to No. 2 on the Spotify Global chart and dominating radio playlists. In the United States, it spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, helping Swift extend her record as the solo artist with the most No. 1 songs on Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay.
