Tyla briefly found herself at the center of online controversy on December 14 after her X (formerly Twitter) account reposted a harsh message seemingly aimed at Nicki Minaj. The reposted tweet, which urged Minaj to “delete social media” and “go away,” was widely interpreted by fans as public shade, especially amid Nicki’s recent political posts that have sparked debate across the entertainment industry.
The reaction was immediate. Fans quickly called out Tyla online, questioning the intent behind the repost and speculating about a possible rift between the two artists. However, the tweet was deleted shortly afterward, and the situation took a different turn as users noticed Tyla’s account had also reposted other unrelated or negative content around the same time. This fueled speculation that her account may have been compromised.
Tyla appeared to address the situation indirectly on Instagram later that day. She shared a photo with Nicki Minaj’s 2010 hit “Your Love” playing in the background, captioned simply, “In trouble on the net again.” The post was widely read as a subtle confirmation of a hack, while also signaling respect toward Nicki.
The brief controversy did little to slow Tyla’s current momentum. The South African pop star is coming off the successful conclusion of her We Wanna Party Tour and continues to gain traction with her latest single “Chanel.” The track has surged into Spotify’s global top 25, pulling in more than three million daily streams and marking one of her strongest chart performances to date.
Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj remains focused on her next era. The rap icon recently teased progress on her upcoming album, scheduled for release on March 27, 2026. In November, Minaj revealed she had already shortlisted 14 standout tracks, signaling that the project is well underway and fueling anticipation among fans.
