Tyla has revealed new details about her recent EP We Wanna Party and teased the sound and spirit of her upcoming second album. In a conversation with Variety, the South African star explained that the EP was intentional, explosive, and meant to show the world where she is creatively before the full album drops.

I wanted to have music out there that felt like who I am right now,” Tyla said. “I wanted something very aggressive and loud and summer-banger worthy. I needed to say what I said in ‘Mr. Media’ and let those ideas out before the album came.” Released on July 25 via FAX and Epic Records, the four-track EP blends amapiano with Afrobeats, R&B, and mainstream pop flair.

Tyla calls We Wanna Party a “bridge to the album”—a deliberate appetizer to prime listeners for the full-length project. She promises the album will be nothing like fans expect. “When the album comes,” she explained, “it’s going to be such a totally different vibe than what people are expecting.”

We Wanna Party was highly anticipated. It was preceded by two singles: “Bliss” (May 9) and “Is It” (July 11). Notably, the EP features “Dynamite,” a collaboration with none other than Wizkid, which climbed to No. 3 on the US World Digital Song Sales chart and landed at No. 2 on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart.

In her interview with Variety, Tyla also confirmed new music is on the way. Later this year, she plans to release an amapiano single titled “Chanel” before the arrival of the full album. “I had more time to work on this album than I did the first,” she shared. “I have a lot of songs. It feels really current—this time, I’m living what I’m singing, and it feels way more personal.”

It’s a clear sign Tyla is pushing into a bold new phase. Her debut self-titled album set records: she became the highest-charting African solo female artist on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, and she earned a Grammy for Best African Music Performance with “Water.”
