Tyla is signaling a clear shift in momentum as she prepares to enter what she openly describes as her “pop girl era.” The South African star offered fresh insight into her creative headspace during a recent Instagram Live, where she spoke about her upcoming sophomore album and the perspective shaping it.

This album is gonna be very fun,” Tyla said, emphasizing that the project draws directly from her lived experiences over the past year. “It’s gonna be speaking about a lot of things that I felt throughout the year—not like deep. Some of it might be layered, but more so just me, my life, what I’ve been feeling, and what I’ve been experiencing. And just me being a 23-year-old girl in this big, big world as a pop star, as a South African pop star.”

Her comments arrive amid growing anticipation. Just days earlier, she teased the record with a cryptic Instagram post captioned “T2 OHHHH OHHHH,” a subtle but effective signal that the album rollout is accelerating.

That momentum reached a new peak with “Chanel.” On New Year’s Eve, the single earned 4.18 million streams in a single day, setting a new Global Spotify record for an African artist. The achievement pushed the track to a new peak of No. 8 worldwide and eclipsed Tyla’s own previous record set by “Water,” which logged 3.9 million daily streams at its height.

The forthcoming album follows last summer’s EP We Wanna Party, which Tyla has described as a deliberate bridge between eras. Speaking with Variety, she explained that the project was meant to clear creative space before unveiling the album’s true direction. Loud, aggressive, and built for movement, the EP allowed her to release ideas that did not belong in the full-length vision. The result was a series of successful songs like “Bliss,” “Is It,” and the Wizkid collaboration “Dynamite.”

Importantly, Tyla has been clear that the album will not mirror the EP’s energy. She has promised a different emotional and sonic atmosphere, one that reflects evolution rather than repetition. That promise carries weight given her track record. Her self-titled debut made history on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, while “Water” earned her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance.
