Young Thug turned a powerful hometown moment into a life-changing one. On December 16, the Atlanta rapper surprised longtime girlfriend Mariah the Scientist by proposing to her onstage during his “Hometown Hero: Young Thug & Friends” benefit concert at State Farm Arena.

Midway through the performance, Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, brought Mariah Buckles to center stage. As the music paused, he dropped to one knee and presented a dazzling engagement ring. Behind them, the arena’s massive LED screen lit up with the words “Will You Marry Me?” The crowd erupted as Mariah, visibly shocked and emotional, accepted the proposal with a kiss and told fans, “I guess we’re getting married.” Within minutes, clips of the proposal flooded social media, quickly going viral across platforms.

The engagement marks a major milestone for a couple whose relationship has played out both publicly and through their music. Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist have been together since 2021. Throughout his highly publicized YSL RICO case and incarceration from May 2022 to October 2024, Mariah remained a steady presence, often expressing loyalty and support. Although the pair briefly split earlier in 2025 following leaked jail calls that fueled online speculation, they reconciled by October.

Their artistic connection has mirrored their real-life bond. The couple first collaborated on “Walked In” in 2021, appearing as a married couple in the video and sparking early dating rumors. They reunited on “Ride” from Mariah’s 2023 album To Be Eaten Alive, where themes of loyalty and partnership took center stage. In 2025, Young Thug included two deeply personal collaborations on his album UY SCUTI: “Invest Into You,” a romantic pledge of commitment, and “Dreams Rarely Do Come True,” which reflected on distance, pressure, and resilience.
