Kanye West has responded to mounting backlash over his planned headline slot at Wireless Festival 2026, issuing a public statement addressing the controversy and offering to meet with members of the Jewish community in the United Kingdom. The rapper, also known as Ye, framed the upcoming performances as an opportunity to demonstrate personal change.
“My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music,” he wrote. “I know words aren’t enough — I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.” The message arrives as scrutiny intensifies around his booking for the July 10–12 event at Finsbury Park, where he is scheduled to headline all three nights.
Festival organizers, including Festival Republic, promoted the booking as a three-night retrospective of Ye’s catalog. That framing quickly collided with widespread criticism tied to his history of antisemitic remarks and controversial public actions. Political leaders have weighed in, with Keir Starmer calling the decision “deeply concerning,” emphasizing the need to confront antisemitism and ensure Jewish communities feel safe. London Mayor Sadiq Khan also distanced City Hall from the event, stating that Ye’s past comments do not reflect the city’s values.
Pressure has extended beyond politics. Major Jewish organizations, including the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Jewish Leadership Council, and the Campaign Against Antisemitism, have condemned the booking and called for his exclusion from the UK. Several groups referenced his previous public apology published in January 2026, in which he acknowledged losing touch with reality and expressed regret over past behavior.
Commercial fallout has followed. Longtime festival partner Pepsi withdrew its sponsorship after more than a decade, with additional exits from Diageo, Rockstar Energy, PayPal, and AB InBev. Government officials are also reviewing Ye’s visa status ahead of the performances, with no final decision confirmed as of April 7.
