Kanye West has been barred from entering the United Kingdom, effectively cancelling his planned headlining run at Wireless Festival 2026. The decision, confirmed by a government spokesperson to BBC, stated that his presence would “not be conducive to the public good.”
The ruling ends plans for Ye—formerly known as Kanye West—to headline all three nights of the July 10–12 festival at Finsbury Park, marking what would have been his first UK performances in nearly a decade. Festival organizers had promoted the booking as a three-night retrospective of his catalog, positioning it as a centerpiece of this year’s edition.
News of the ban follows hours after Ye issued a public statement addressing the backlash, offering to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK. In his message, he framed the Wireless appearance as an opportunity to demonstrate personal change, writing that he aimed to bring “unity, peace, and love” through his music while acknowledging that words alone would not be sufficient.
Political pressure surrounding the booking had intensified in recent days. Prime Minister Keir Starmer previously described the situation as “deeply concerning,” while London Mayor Sadiq Khan distanced City Hall from the decision, citing a misalignment with the city’s values. Calls for action escalated across government and advocacy groups, culminating in the visa decision now preventing Ye’s entry.
Jewish organizations played a central role in the response. The Board of Deputies of British Jews confirmed it would be open to meeting Ye, but only if he agreed not to perform at the festival this year. The group’s position aligned with broader calls from the Jewish Leadership Council and the Campaign Against Antisemitism, all of which had urged authorities to block his participation.
Commercial fallout had already begun prior to the ban. Major sponsors including Pepsi, Diageo, Rockstar Energy, PayPal, and AB InBev withdrew support, ending long-standing partnerships and increasing pressure on organizers. The cumulative response from political leaders, advocacy groups, and corporate partners created a scenario where the government’s intervention became increasingly likely.
UPDATE: Wireless Festival has officially been cancelled.
All ticket holders will receive refunds.
