Lil Nas X is opening up about his mental health journey while assuring fans that new music is finally on the horizon. In a candid two-minute video shared on June 17, the rapper revealed that he has spent the past several months in rehabilitation and is now focused on recovery, growth, and eventually returning to music.
Addressing supporters directly, Lil Nas X thanked fans for standing by him during one of the most challenging periods of his life. “There is new music on the way. I’m not getting completely to that just yet. But I’m excited to do that and I’m excited to go on that journey with you guys,” he said. “Montourage: we’ve been through so much together. Thank you guys for holding it down.”
The update marks one of his most personal public statements to date. During the video, the Grammy-winning artist revealed that he has been receiving professional treatment and support. “I’ve been in rehab for a few months,” he shared. “I have a therapist now and psychologist.”
Lil Nas X also spoke openly about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, explaining why he initially struggled to discuss it publicly.
“I didn’t want to admit [I had bipolar disorder] because I didn’t want people to think of me differently,” he said. “I’m already Black and gay. Black, gay, [and] bipolar, I’m living life on extreme hard mode.”
His comments arrive after a turbulent year that included several highly publicized health incidents. In April 2025, the rapper revealed he had been hospitalized with partial facial paralysis, later updating fans that he was gradually recovering movement. Months later, in August 2025, he was arrested following a mental health episode in Los Angeles that resulted in hospitalization and widespread concern among fans.
At the time, representatives emphasized that the incident was not related to substance abuse but rather a serious mental health crisis. The situation ultimately led to a bipolar disorder diagnosis, something Lil Nas X has now confirmed publicly.
Legal proceedings connected to the August 2025 arrest also took a significant turn earlier this year. In April 2026, a judge approved a two-year mental health diversion program that allows the artist to focus on treatment rather than traditional criminal proceedings. If completed successfully through 2028, the charges against him will be dismissed.
