Nicki Minaj is embracing President Donald Trump’s joke about her rather than pushing back against it. One day after Trump referenced the rapper during his speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Minaj responded on X with a humorous post that quickly caught fans’ attention.
Quoting a video of Trump’s remarks, Minaj shared an image of a pink-haired Chucky doll dressed in a black suit and bow tie with a mischievous grin. She captioned the post: “How I’ll be looking @ the President next time I see him,” signaling that she took the moment in stride.
The exchange stemmed from Trump’s speech on July 24 at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C., where the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held after being postponed from April following a shooting incident near the original venue. During his opening remarks, Trump reflected on the security scare before shifting into a series of jokes aimed at public figures.
Among them was a quip involving Nicki Minaj, whom he described as his friend. “After hearing the gunshots, many people yelled, ‘Get down! Get down!’ which caused Nicki Minaj to start twerking. Do you believe it? Get down. She’s the only one that really understood what that meant,” Trump joked. Reports from the event suggested the line drew a muted reaction inside the ballroom.
Instead of criticizing the comment, Nicki Minaj leaned into the moment with her signature online humor. The interaction also reflects Minaj’s increasingly public support for Trump. Earlier this year, she appeared as a featured speaker at the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, D.C., where she delivered a speech praising the president and defending her political views.
“I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change,” Minaj said during the January event. “The hate, or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.”
She also criticized what she described as ongoing attacks against Trump, adding, “We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and the smear campaigns — it’s not going to work.”
Beyond her endorsement, Minaj announced plans to contribute between $150,000 and $300,000 to help fund Trump Accounts for newborn children of her fans, citing motherhood and long-term financial opportunity as key motivations behind the pledge.
