Red Velvet is officially returning this summer. On Saturday, July 5, the group announced their new mini album Velvet Summer, which is scheduled for release on August 3, 2026, at 6 p.m. KST, kicking off a brand-new era with an intriguing first teaser.

Alongside the announcement, Red Velvet unveiled a 10-second promotional clip featuring the phrase “Meet The Surfin’ Boy.” The animated teaser introduces a dreamlike seaside world, blending fantasy and beach imagery through a glowing ocean, towering palm trees, a mystical sea creature, an ethereal white-haired figure, and a boy surfing across a luminous wave. While SM Entertainment has yet to reveal the album’s concept or tracklist, the visual immediately sparked speculation among fans about how the group’s signature “Red” and “Velvet” duality could be reimagined for a summer release.

The comeback marks Red Velvet’s first Korean project since Cosmic, their seventh Korean EP, which arrived on June 24, 2024. Led by the title track of the same name, the six-song release celebrated the group’s elegant pop identity before receiving an expanded “Cosmie Version” on August 1, 2024, adding the fan-favorite single “Sweet Dreams” as part of the group’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Promotion for Cosmic followed SM Entertainment’s familiar rollout strategy, including mood films, individual member teasers, and the cinematic “Love is Cosmic” trailer before the EP’s release. The project later peaked at No. 145 on the Billboard 200.
