ROSÉ is giving fans a glimpse into the making of her new solo album, revealing that the summer months have become an important part of her creative process. In a new interview with ELLE Korea, the BLACKPINK member said she has been spending this summer making music in South Korea, with the experience of working through the country’s intense humidity already becoming part of the album’s story.
“In the end, summer is the time for me to make music, a time to discover myself and discover my music,” ROSÉ told ELLE Korea. “This time I’m working in Korea, and the time I spent enduring this intense humidity will probably remain as one of the scenes in the new album.”
The comment offers one of the clearest updates yet on ROSÉ’s sophomore solo project. While JENNIE has launched her new era with the Fallen Angel EP and LISA and JISOO are preparing new solo releases, ROSÉ remains focused on building the follow-up to her 2024 debut album, Rosie.
Studio work has been quietly progressing over the past several months. ROSÉ has shared a series of photos from recording sessions, giving fans glimpses of the creative process.
Her approach also suggests that the next album is being shaped through a period of personal discovery rather than a rushed follow-up to Rosie. The singer’s description of summer as a time to “discover myself and discover my music” points toward a project that could document where she is creatively after the enormous international success of her debut.
Released on December 6, 2024, Rosie established ROSÉ as a major solo force beyond BLACKPINK. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting album by a K-pop female soloist at the time, while its global success was driven in large part by “APT.” with Bruno Mars.
The collaboration became a defining moment of ROSÉ’s solo career, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. “APT.” has since surpassed 2.5 billion Spotify streams, while Rosie itself crossed 4 billion streams on the platform in June 2026.
That milestone made Rosie the first album by a K-pop female soloist to reach 4 billion Spotify streams. The project is also only the second album by a K-pop female act to achieve the feat, following BLACKPINK’s The Album.
ROSÉ now finds herself in an unusual position within BLACKPINK’s solo timeline. JENNIE has already released Fallen Angel, LISA is preparing her Press Play EP for October after new music arrives next week, and JISOO is also set to release a new solo song. With ROSÉ still recording in Korea, the next chapter of her solo career could become one of the most anticipated BLACKPINK-related releases still waiting to take shape.
