In an unexpected move, Kendrick Lamar takes the spotlight this Friday with the release of his sixth studio album, GNX. The rapper shared a teaser just minutes before the full project became available on streaming platforms. Although Kendrick is known for long gaps between releases, GNX arrives just two years after his Grammy-winning and critically acclaimed album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Following that release, the 37-year-old rapper embarked on the Big Steppers Tour, which concluded last March.
This year has been particularly eventful for Kendrick. His feud with Drake intensified, resulting in three singles—“euphoria,” “meet the grahams,” and “Not Like Us”—alongside a guest appearance on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.”
Speculation about new music began in October when SZA and Schoolboy Q confirmed Kendrick was working on a new album. Released via phLang and Interscope, GNX features twelve tracks, with production credits including Jack Antonoff. Notably, SZA appears on two tracks: “Luther” and “Gloria.”
Looking ahead, Kendrick is set to headline the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in 2025. For now, he has delivered one of the best rap records of the year, with all the tracks ranked below.
