After years of buildup, false starts, and headline-grabbing collaborations, Ty Dolla $ign has finally dropped his long-delayed fourth studio album, Tycoon. Released today (October 17) via Atlantic Records, the project was billed as a major return for one of R&B and hip-hop’s most versatile hitmakers — but while Tycoon offers moments of brilliance, it ultimately falls short of the expectations that surrounded it.

Clocking in at 15 tracks, Tycoon reunites Ty with a star-studded cast that includes Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, Quavo, YG, Kodak Black, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Destroy Lonely, Rich the Kid, Leon Thomas, and Chlöe. It’s a guest list that should have guaranteed fireworks. Instead, the album delivers a mixed experience — a handful of standout tracks surrounded by songs that struggle to make a lasting impression. Several songs, like “CAN’T BE FUCKED WITH,” “Say It,” and “What I Want,” are easily forgettable. It’s not all disappointment, though: tracks like “DON’T KILL THE PARTY” and “DECEMBER 31ST” capture flashes of greatness.

After a five-year break from solo releases and multiple delays (the album was initially expected in June), Tycoon feels less like a triumphant return and more like a cautiously assembled comeback. Ty’s signature mix of sensual melodies and lush production remains, but too often, the songs blur together rather than stand out. In addition, Ty’s smooth vocals often feel buried under the whirlwind of guest appearances.

Below, we rank the best songs from Ty Dolla $ign’s Tycoon.
