Leading this week’s New Music Friday is Drake, who officially drops his ninth studio album Iceman at midnight. The project marks his first solo full-length release since For All the Dogs in 2023 and arrives following one of the most scrutinized periods of his career. Over the past several months, the rollout has expanded far beyond traditional album promotion. Ice sculptures appeared throughout downtown Toronto, cryptic livestreams blurred music with episodic storytelling, and the “Freeze The World” campaign transformed social media into a puzzle hunt for fans.
Musically, Iceman is expected to directly confront the aftermath of Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar, particularly through the already discussed track “What Did I Miss?”
Elsewhere, Gracie Abrams begins another album cycle with “Hit the Wall,” released tonight as the lead single from her upcoming third studio album Daughter From Hell. The song continues her creative partnership with Aaron Dessner, whose production helped shape the emotional intimacy of The Secret of Us. That album became a defining commercial breakthrough for Abrams in 2025, securing her first top-five debut on the Billboard 200.
Meanwhile, Shakira and Burna Boy are entering the global sports conversation with “Dai Dai,” the newly announced anthem tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The collaboration arrives exactly sixteen years after “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” became one of the defining songs of the 2010 World Cup era.
Noteworthy releases also come from Martin Garrix & Ed Sheeran, Tove Lo, The Strokes, Kenny Mason & Dominic Fike, Jorja Smith, Shania Twain, Kevin Jonas, and more.
