Zayn Malik is entering a new chapter tonight. His fifth studio album Konnakol officially drops on April 17, marking his first full-length release since 2024.

The project follows Room Under the Stairs, which debuted at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 15 on the Billboard 200, establishing a more introspective, stripped-back direction. With Konnakol, Zayn expands that foundation into something more global and rhythm-driven, drawing inspiration from South Indian vocal percussion traditions reflected in the album’s title.

What Is “Konnakol”?

Konnakol takes its name from a centuries-old practice in Carnatic music, where rhythmic patterns are performed vocally using syllables instead of instruments.

Singles and Early Standouts

The rollout kicked off on February 6th with “Die for Me,” followed by “Sideways” on March 27th. Both songs quickly became fan favorites, with “Die For Me” being voted the best release of the month in InMusic’s poll upon its release.

During a recent appearance on Call Her Daddy, Zayn highlighted three songs that define the project for him: “Used to the Blues,” “Side Effects,” and “Sideways.” Reflecting on his career at this stage, he said, “Honestly, the fact that people still give a sh-t.” He added, “I guess I’m just proud of the progression and just the development and understanding of myself through my music.”
