Addison Rae is no stranger to reinvention, and with “Money Is Everything,” she proves she’s fully locked into her new era. The track—one of the highlights from her debut album Addison—is a glossy, synth-pop satire aimed at the glittering world of wealth, fame, and image. It stands out not just for its sleek production but also for its bold lyrical choices, name-dropping several pop icons.

She references Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” even mentioning her real name, Norma Jeane, singing: “Diamonds are my best friend like I’m Norma Jeane.” She then mentions Madonna, one of Addison’s major influences: “And when I’m up dancing, please DJ, play Madonna.” She goes on to shout out Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey: “Wanna roll one with Lana, get high with Gaga.”

With her signature blend of Y2K nostalgia and shimmering production—thanks to collaborators Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd—Addison leans into irony without losing her sense of glam. “Money Is Everything” cleverly balances excess and insight, playfully mocking the very world that helped shape her rise.
