Ariana Grande is giving fans another look at petal before its arrival on July 31. Over the weekend, the pop superstar unveiled teaser videos for both the album opener “kiss me” and the title track, with the latter already sparking conversation over what many believe is a pointed critique of the entertainment industry.
The first clip previews “kiss me,” which is expected to open Grande’s eighth studio album. Although brief, the teaser expands on footage that has already appeared during the pre-show visuals of her ongoing Eternal Sunshine Tour, where concertgoers have been getting an early glimpse of the song for several weeks.
Ariana Grande also shared a separate teaser tied to “petal,” offering the first substantial look at the song’s accompanying music video. Set inside what appears to be a casting or audition environment, the clip prominently features a poster reading: “Major Studios are calling for new faces who can follow direction and have a good personality.”
Fans were quick to interpret the message as a subtle jab at the music and film industries’ constant search for younger, more easily controlled talent.
The visual fits naturally into the themes Grande has introduced throughout the petal rollout. Executive produced by Grande alongside longtime collaborator Ilya, the 12-track project has been described as a record about growth, healing and resilience. Ariana previously said the album represents “growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging,” an idea echoed in the floral imagery surrounding the campaign.
Promotion for the album has followed a carefully coordinated strategy. On July 18, Grande posted another cryptic lyric snippet reading, “i hear them all say …,” continuing a tradition of monthly teasers released around the eighth day of each month. Earlier, on July 8, she revealed an alternate album cover alongside lyrics centered on renewal and hope: “someday all the seeds will open… all of the human life i’ve dreamt of will bloom all around.”
Momentum surrounding petal has continued to build following the success of lead single “hate that i made you love me,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Grande’s 10th career chart-topper. Away from the studio, the singer remains on the Eternal Sunshine Tour, where recent performances have produced viral moments ranging from lyric changes during “thank u, next” to a surprise appearance by Ty Dolla $ign for a live rendition of “Safety Net” in Brooklyn.
