Camila Cabello recently opened up to Nylon Magazine about her latest album, C,XOXO. Released last summer, the LP received mixed reviews from fans and critics. While some praised her courage to explore new soundscapes, others expressed a preference for her earlier style. Despite the polarizing reception, fellow superstars Taylor Swift and Beyoncé voiced their admiration for the album, a gesture that deeply resonated with Camila.

Beyoncé told me she loved my album, OK? That’s the gold star,” Camila shared. “She’s somebody I’ve watched from my childhood.” She also expressed gratitude for Taylor’s kind words, “Beyoncé and Taylor saying nice things about the album really meant a lot to me.” She also added that “Anytime an artist that I respect has said something to me like, ‘Hey, I really love what you’re doing,’ it recharges my battery. A lot of the time I felt so misunderstood.”

In the interview, Camila also addressed online comparisons between her and Charli XCX after she described C,XOXO as a “hyperpop” record. “I hate that I said that, because people ran with this thing before the album was even out,” she explained. “She [Charli xcx] is one of my favorite artists, you know?

C,XOXO, released on June 28, marks a significant departure from Camila’s previous work. The album’s new sonic direction became evident with its lead single, “I Luv It.” While primarily a pop record, the LP incorporates elements of hip-hop and alt-pop. Commercially, it peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and entered the top 20 on the UK Albums Chart.
