Camila Cabello may be hard at work on her next album, but according to the singer herself, football currently comes first. While attending a 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Scotland and Brazil, Cabello playfully addressed fans eager for new music with a tongue-in-cheek update.
Posting from the packed stadium on TikTok, the singer joked: “Sorry that I haven’t finished the album yet, but my priority right now is the World Cup.”
The lighthearted message immediately caught fans’ attention, especially as anticipation continues to build around her upcoming fifth studio album. Cabello doubled down on her match-day enthusiasm through Instagram Stories, where she shared another humorous observation, writing that watching the game had confirmed she “need[s] glasses so bad.”
Although the post was clearly made in jest, it arrives at a time when speculation surrounding new music is accelerating. Just days ago, Cabello shared studio photos alongside producer Aaron Dessner, fueling theories that her next project could move in a different sonic direction than 2024’s C,XOXO.
The collaboration is particularly notable given Dessner’s reputation for crafting introspective, organic records with artists including Taylor Swift, The National, and Gracie Abrams. For fans accustomed to the experimental pop, hyperpop, hip-hop, and dance influences that defined C,XOXO, the studio snapshots hinted that another artistic evolution may be underway.
Earlier this month, Cabello also returned to Instagram after an extended period of relative silence. On June 7, she posted a personal message explaining her absence while subtly confirming that work on new material remains a priority.
“If i have been gone it’s because i’m focusing on making things,” she wrote. “yes music and also memories and new mistakes and also bread.”
The project will serve as the follow-up to C,XOXO, released on June 28, 2024. The album marked a major turning point in Cabello’s career following her move to Geffen and Interscope Records. Commercially, the record debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 with 36,500 equivalent album units in its opening week and featured singles including “I Luv It,” “He Knows,” “Hot Uptown,” and “Godspeed.”
Outside the studio, Cabello has remained visible throughout 2026. In April, she surprised audiences at Coachella by joining Young Thug onstage and performing her global smash “Havana.”
