Chappell Roan may be gearing up to release her next single, “The Subway,” in just over a week—on August 1. That’s the date featured on a newly surfaced promotional poster in New York City, marking the strongest sign yet that her next era is officially underway.
The poster, seen taped to a street pole, features bold retro-style artwork and the phrase “GET BANGS!”—a playful nod to the popular “breakup bangs” trend. The slogan frames the song in the emotional and personal territory Chappell is known for, tying into a broader cultural moment where people cut bangs after major relationship changes as a form of emotional transformation.

Though the Grammy-winning singer hasn’t formally announced the single, fans have already gotten a taste during her live performances. A first hint of “The Subway” dates back to June 2024, when Chappell quietly changed her Instagram profile picture to a version of the New York City subway logo. She later debuted the song live at Governors Ball 2024 and performed it again at Bonnaroo, calling it “a fun song to sing.” While no studio version has been released, the live performances gave fans a clear preview of what’s to come.
Adding more weight to the speculation, Chappell Roan was seen filming a music video for “The Subway” in New York City earlier this month. On July 7, fans captured footage of the shoot, with clips circulating across TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). One scene showed her wearing a flowing red wig on a balcony.
Earlier this year, Chappell treated fans to the single “The Giver,” which dropped in March and became her biggest chart success yet—peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. That track blended pop with country elements and set a high bar for what’s next.
While she’s said in interviews that her sophomore album is still in progress, she’s also confirmed she’s sitting on “songs upon songs”—and “The Subway” seems poised to be the next chapter.
2025 has already been a breakthrough year for Chappell Roan. She earned her first-ever Grammy, taking home Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards. Since the viral success of “Good Luck, Babe!” in 2024, Chappell’s momentum has only grown. New fans have flocked to her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which continues to earn critical praise, while standout tracks like “Hot To Go!” and “Red Wine Supernova” have seen renewed popularity across streaming platforms and social media.
