Gracie Abrams is speaking candidly about the criticism she has faced throughout her rise to pop stardom. In a new interview with Vogue, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter reflected on years of negative comments surrounding her voice, her artistic credibility, and accusations that her family background helped launch her career.
As anticipation builds for her upcoming album Daughter From Hell, Abrams offered one of her most direct responses yet to the scrutiny that has followed her since the beginning of her career.
Discussing the impact of social media, Abrams acknowledged the harsh commentary that often appeared on platforms such as X and Instagram. According to the singer, many of the criticisms echoed insecurities she had already wrestled with privately.
“I’m the first to say I’m not a vocalist,” Abrams told Vogue. “I understand not liking how my voice sounded. I didn’t either a lot of the time.”
She also revealed that her distinctive whisper-like vocal style developed naturally over time. “I never had any training,” she said, explaining that she often sang quietly because she did not want other people in her house to hear her while she was creating music.
Meanwhile, Gracie Abrams is confidently stepping into the next chapter of her career. Her third studio album, Daughter from Hell, is set for release on July 17 and is shaping up to be her most ambitious project yet.
Beyond addressing criticism, Abrams also confirmed several key collaborators involved in the album. According to Vogue, the project features work from Bon Iver, Daniel Nigro, Marcus Mumford, and Sarah Aarons. The announcement follows her recent Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, where she revealed that Daughter From Hell would include guest appearances, teasing that she was “so lucky” to have “great friends” contributing to the record.
Interest around the album has continued to intensify since Abrams officially announced it on May 11. Lead single “Hit the Wall” debuted with more than 3.2 million Spotify streams, providing fans with an early glimpse into the album’s direction.
The new era follows the breakout success of The Secret of Us, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and elevated Abrams into a new tier of commercial success.
Abrams is also preparing to launch The Look at My Life Tour in December 2026, bringing the Daughter From Hell era across North America before expanding into the United Kingdom and Europe in 2027.
