Kacey Musgraves has officially announced her new album, Middle of Nowhere. The record is scheduled for release on May 1, with the announcement arriving on March 11 alongside the album’s lead single, “Dry Spell.”
The project will feature 13 tracks and is structured across two sides, echoing the classic format of traditional vinyl releases. Musgraves also revealed the album artwork, which presents a minimalist yet evocative image: the singer stands in jeans, a tank top, and a cowboy hat beside a longhorn bull against a stark white wall. The visual leans heavily into the country iconography that has long been part of her aesthetic.
Among the guest appearances are Gregory Alan Isakov on “Coyote,” Billy Strings on “Everybody Wants to Be a Cowboy,” Miranda Lambert on “Horses and Divorces,” and country legend Willie Nelson on “Uncertain, TX.”
The album arrives roughly two years after Deeper Well, which was released in March 2024. That record represented a quieter, introspective phase for Musgraves, moving away from the expansive pop influences that shaped 2021’s Star-Crossed. Instead, Deeper Well embraced organic instrumentation and pastoral imagery, reflecting a period of creative recalibration for the Grammy-winning country star.
Commercially, Deeper Well performed strongly. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and produced several singles, including “Deeper Well,” “Too Good to Be True,” “Cardinal,” and “The Architect.” The latter earned the Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
