KATSEYE are turning viral moments into cultural statements. For Halloween 2025, the global girl group released a special performance video of their breakout hit “Gabriela” — this time reimagined with a full Mariah Carey twist. Titled “All I Want for Halloween Is… Gabriela,” the video pays tribute to Carey’s late-’90s Rainbow era while cleverly referencing a now-famous VMAs red carpet moment that made the group go viral.
The six-member group — Daniela, Manon, Megan, Lara, Sophia, and Yoonchae — took the meme-worthy moment in stride and turned it into an iconic celebration of pop history. In the new clip, each member channels Mariah Carey’s signature style from the Rainbow and Butterfly eras, complete with butterfly tops, white denim, glossy lips, and the bright, carefree energy that defined late-’90s pop.

But before this viral redemption came a viral stumble. At the 2025 MTV VMAs in September, held at UBS Arena in New York City, KATSEYE made their award show debut with high-energy pre-show performances of “Gnarly” and “Gabriela,” both tracks from their hit EP Beautiful Chaos. The group also won Push Performance of the Year, marking a major milestone in their fast-rising career. However, during a red carpet interview with host Bowen Yang, the group froze when asked to name their favorite Mariah Carey music video — an awkward yet endearing pause that quickly exploded online.
Mariah Carey herself performed that night, delivering a medley of her classics and receiving the Video Vanguard Award, which made KATSEYE’s blank moment even more memorable. Instead of ignoring it, the group decided to lean into the humor.
The new “Gabriela” video opens with Bowen Yang returning in a cameo, reprising his role as interviewer and asking the same question. This time, the members are ready. They enthusiastically shout out Carey’s legendary visuals — “Heartbreaker,” “Fantasy,” and “Honey” — before launching into their performance.
The video ends with a cheeky message on screen: “You clearly know and love Mariah Carey,” Bowen Yang states.
