Mariah the Scientist may have new music on the way before the end of 2026, but she is letting fans help decide when it arrives. The singer-songwriter took to Instagram Stories to ask followers whether they would prefer a new EP this year or for her to skip straight to her next album in 2027.
The poll offered two options: “2026 EP” and “Straight 2 the next album……….” The question suggests that Mariah is considering another release following Hearts Sold Separately, her fourth studio album, which arrived on August 22, 2025, through Buckles Laboratories and Epic Records.

Although she has yet to announce details about the potential project, the poll gives fans a glimpse into the conversations surrounding her next musical chapter. Choosing an EP would allow her to share new material before the year closes, while moving directly toward an album could give her more time to develop a full-length follow-up.
Hearts Sold Separately marked a significant career milestone for Mariah. The album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 with 36,000 equivalent album units in its first week in the United States, giving her the highest-charting album of her career on the chart. It followed To Be Eaten Alive, released in 2023.
The record was preceded by “Burning Blue” and “Is It a Crime,” the latter featuring Kali Uchis. “Burning Blue” became Mariah’s highest-charting single in the United States at the time, helping build anticipation for the album’s release.
Mariah also supported Hearts Sold Separately with a tour spanning Europe and North America in 2026, bringing the album to audiences beyond its initial release.
