Lady Gaga has officially dropped the much-anticipated music video for her new single “The Dead Dance”, and it’s every bit as eerie and theatrical as fans hoped. Released on September 3, the video is directed by Tim Burton and filmed at the haunting Island of the Dolls (La Isla de las Muñecas) in Xochimilco, Mexico, a setting that perfectly matches both the song’s gothic undertones and its connection to Netflix’s hit series Wednesday.
The video opens on a fog-drenched night, with broken dolls hanging from trees, their glassy eyes catching the moonlight. Gaga steps into the scene as her Wednesday character Rosaline Rotwood, a mysterious Nevermore Academy teacher, dressed in an avant-garde white gown that merges Victorian gothic elegance with modern high fashion. From there, the narrative unfolds like a twisted fairytale. Gaga leads a troupe of dancers in a hypnotic performance, their synchronized movements reflecting the track’s funk-driven basslines and disco-inspired beats.

“The Dead Dance” marks another chapter in Gaga’s MAYHEM era, blending her love for dark pop spectacle with her growing presence in television and film. The single, written with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, was first previewed during Roblox’s Dress to Impress event and teased at Netflix’s Wednesday Graveyard Gala in August.
Gaga’s appearance in Wednesday Season 2 as Rosaline Rotwood already had fans buzzing. Much like the viral resurrection of her 2011 track “Bloody Mary” during Season 1, “The Dead Dance” merges her theatrical pop persona with the gothic universe of the Addams family.
