In a new interview with IndieWire, director Matt Reeves revealed that The Weeknd had a major influence on the emotional tone of the upcoming film The Batman Part II. Specifically, he shared that the singer’s 2018 track “Call Out My Name” helped shape Bruce Wayne’s mindset as he returns to the screen.

The Weeknd’s ‘Call Out My Name’ was a big inspiration for what Bruce is dealing with when we see him again,” Reeves said. “It captures that sense of heartbreak, regret, and emotional isolation that really fits this stage of his journey.

Scheduled for release in October 2027, The Batman Part II continues the story of a younger Bruce Wayne as he faces new threats in Gotham and wrestles with his identity. Robert Pattinson returns in the title role, with Reeves once again writing and directing. Although plot details remain tightly under wraps, the director has hinted that the sequel will explore the emotional consequences—both personal and societal—stemming from Bruce’s actions in the first film.

This news also arrives as The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) prepares to make his big-screen debut in Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The film, written and directed by Trey Edward Shults for Lionsgate, premieres exclusively in theaters on May 16, 2025. Earlier this year, the Canadian superstar released his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow—the final chapter in his trilogy following After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). The album was a major success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the hit singles “Timeless” and “Cry For Me.”
