Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are giving fans another glimpse into their relationship — this time through a playful conversation about fan culture. Ahead of the premiere of Katy Perry’s concert documentary Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris at the Tribeca Festival in New York, the couple shared a lighthearted car ride exchange in which Perry explained the difference between “Katycats” and “Katyrats.”
The moment quickly caught attention online after Perry posted the clip to Instagram. Sitting beside the former Canadian Prime Minister, the pop star turned a simple question into an unexpectedly philosophical lesson about embracing every side of yourself.
“Do you know the difference between a cat and a rat? Katycat and a Katyrat,” Perry begins in the video. When Trudeau responds, “Why don’t you tell me?”, she launches into an explanation that longtime fans immediately recognized as classic Katy humor.
“You know how the light cannot exist without the darkness? And that we should just embrace our shadow self?” Perry says. “The Katyrats are a little bit more mischievous than the cats. But that’s because they have a good relationship with all parts of themselves, whether that is the nice or the naughty.”
She continues: “Everyone has a little rat inside of them. If you think you have no rat, then you actually are not even a Katycat. So you have to kind of accept the rat to be the cat.” The exchange prompted laughter from Trudeau, who jokingly suggested he might aspire to become part of the fandom himself.
The clip arrives just hours after Perry and Trudeau made their official red-carpet debut as a couple at the Tribeca Festival premiere of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris. The appearance marked one of their highest-profile public outings since romance rumors first emerged during the summer of 2025.
Their relationship began attracting headlines after the pair were spotted together in Montreal shortly after Perry’s split from Orlando Bloom. Public sightings gradually increased throughout the second half of 2025, including hand-holding moments, concert appearances, and a widely discussed trip to Paris around Perry’s 41st birthday. By early 2026, the couple appeared increasingly comfortable sharing parts of their relationship with the public.
The timing also coincides with renewed attention surrounding Perry’s concert film. Announced in April, The Lifetimes Tour: Live From Paris captures one of the standout stops from her blockbuster Lifetimes Tour, which grossed more than $134 million and sold over 1.05 million tickets across 91 dates worldwide. The film serves as a cinematic celebration of a tour that became Perry’s biggest global outing since 2018.
