Miley Cyrus is entering a new chapter of her career. After spending 14 years under Sony Music labels, the Grammy-winning singer has officially signed with Atlantic Records, bringing an end to an era that included some of the biggest and most transformative albums of her career.
The move was confirmed alongside a new interview with Wonderland, in which Miley Cyrus reflected on her creative process and what inspires her in the studio, offering fans an early glimpse into the mindset behind her next musical chapter.
Speaking about songwriting, Cyrus emphasized that creating music is driven by instinct rather than formulas. “For me, a song isn’t just chords, melody, and lyrics. It’s a feeling. It’s not right or wrong like an answer. It’s alive. It almost becomes its own little entity that tells you what it needs if you’re listening,” she said. She also described the importance of collaboration, adding, “I love making records with people who aren’t precious about ideas. Everyone is there because they’re excited by the same thing. There’s no ego in the room when it’s working. Just curiosity. It’s really special to be surrounded by people who want to surprise each other and are comfortable throwing an idea away or expanding on it.”
Miley Cyrus first joined the Sony Music family in 2013 after leaving Hollywood Records, signing with RCA ahead of the release of Bangerz on September 30, 2013. The album marked one of the defining reinventions of her career, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earning a triple-platinum certification from the RIAA. Powered by hits including “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball,” Bangerz secured Cyrus her first-ever Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Over the following decade, she continued to evolve artistically while remaining under Sony labels, eventually moving to Columbia Records. Her most recent album, Something Beautiful, arrived on May 30, 2025, accompanied by a visual film released one week later. The ambitious project explored themes of healing and transformation while featuring collaborations with Danielle Haim, Flea, Pino Palladino, Brittany Howard, Molly Rankin, Alec O’Hanley, Adam Granduciel, and others. The album reached the Top 10 across several major markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom, and earned another Best Pop Vocal Album nomination at the 68th Grammy Awards.
