Selena Gomez is back with new music. The pop superstar released her new single “In the Dark” on October 23, marking her first release since her album I Said I Love You First. The song serves as the lead track from the soundtrack of Netflix’s hit romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This (Season 2) and brings Gomez back to her roots — delivering a shimmering, synth-driven sound.
Produced by Grammy-winning trio Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and Louis Bell, the track captures an ’80s-inspired dance-pop atmosphere. It mixes glittering synths, pulsating beats, and a deep bass groove. Gomez’s voice glides through the chorus: “And I’ll be there when you lose yourself / To remind you of who you are / And I’ll be there like nobody else / You’re so beautiful in the dark.” Lyrically, “In the Dark” explores unconditional love, inner conflict, and emotional rescue, with Gomez offering warmth and reassurance to someone struggling with self-doubt.

“In the Dark” has an intriguing backstory. The track was originally recorded in 2018 during sessions for Gomez’s long-rumored unreleased album Seven Heavens, which never saw the light of day. Revived and reimagined for the Netflix series, the single feels like a nostalgic nod to her Revival (2015) era — both confident and vulnerable, sleek yet emotionally raw. Songwriters Ali Tamposi and Justin Tranter, long-time collaborators of Gomez, contributed to the writing.
The single arrived alongside a music video directed by Luke Orlando. The video opens with Gomez reclining on a white chaise lounge in a sleek black leotard, surrounded by mirrored walls and flickering neon lights. It transitions into moody close-ups of her in a two-piece leather outfit.
“In the Dark” opens the 19-track album Nobody Wants This: Season 2 (The Soundtrack), released via The Core Records and Interscope. The soundtrack features original songs by Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Finneas, Role Model, Teddy Swims, and Dermot Kennedy. The series stars Kristen Bell as an agnostic podcaster and Adam Brody as a rabbi, whose unlikely connection forms the emotional core of the season.
