Tyla is entering her next era with clarity and confidence. During the 2026 GRAMMYs red carpet, the South African pop star officially announced her sophomore studio album, A-POP. The LP will mark a new chapter shaped by growth, self-assurance, and creative intention. The project, expected to arrive this summer, follows her breakout self-titled debut and arrives at a moment when Tyla’s global presence has never been stronger. At the 2026 GRAMMYs, she won Best African Music Performance, making her the only artist to win the award twice.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Tyla reflected openly on how her mindset has shifted since her first album. “Me being in it, I feel so different to how I felt during the first album,” she said. “I’m just excited for my new one that’s coming this year. Just to see how different it is like… what’s this Tyla now?” The contrast, she explained, comes from lived experience rather than ambition alone. “Look guys, I’ve been through stuff. I don’t know, I feel like a woman. I’m 24, it was my birthday the other day. I feel like a woman.”
That sense of grounding appears central to A-POP. Tyla described her debut as a whirlwind shaped by sudden global attention. “It was very hectic, it was a rush. It was like all of a sudden, overnight craziness,” she said. With time to settle into her success, she now feels more intentional. “Now that I’m settled in, I feel like I know more of my direction—what I want to do, what I want to say.”
Shortly after the GRAMMYs reveal, Tyla shared a video teasing a snippet from the album, offering fans their first sonic glimpse of the project.
The announcement follows a defining run over the past year. Tyla’s single “Chanel” has become one of the most successful songs of her career, surpassing 200 million Spotify streams and setting a record for the highest single-day global streaming total ever achieved by an African artist. Its momentum is growing even stronger in 2026, as the song reached a new peak of No. 43 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.
